The porthole is from one of the submarine’s from the 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea attraction at Walt Disney World. One day we were at the Art of Disney Gallery at Epcot and they were selling them and we thought it was a unique piece of Disney History – Disney Gal Judy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:20000_Leagues_Ride_1979.jpg
Fab pictures! I've not seen any Disney history like that before and I have so many questions about all the different pieces, but I'll only ask one - is the big red boat the original DCL boat? (sorry if that's a really dumb question!)
Not a dumb question at all. The Big Red Boat was Disney's first foray into the cruising world, but they did not own the boat. It was Premiere Cruise Line that sought out Disney to make this happen (they also were the first to use Port Canaveral as a home port for large cruise ships. Smart!). The success of the partnership was also it's downfall when Disney decided they should build their own ships, and thus the DCL was born.
Have I ever mentioned how excited I get coming here every Wednesday? The Gals are always SO creative!! Today's prize? The Western Union telegram from Walt to Roy; where's my crying towel? :D
That is some great Disney History, I love the Monorail game, wish i had one. And the cases at Dsineyland Hotel were so impressive ;-)
ReplyDeleteAll great history, almost forgot about the Big Red Boat, and that Mickey clock is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCan anyone guess what the porthole is?
