Are You Ready to be a Part of "The Legends of Frontierland: Gold Rush"

Howdy Partners! Mosey on over as I tell you the tale of the Legend of Frontierland. It seems that there’s a trouble a brewing in them there hills.  Frontierland and its neighbor, Rainbow Ridge, are in the midst of a good, ol’ fashioned land feud. Rainbow Ridge – a once-booming mining town – has dried up, and they have their eyes set on Frontierland. The steady, hardworking folk in Frontierland want to keep the town safe and free of rougharound-the-edges, opportunistic types. Rumors are spreading that gold has been discovered in mines belonging to Frontierland, and there is even a rumor that Frontierland itself sits on the motherlode! Whether or not the rumors are true, the folk in Rainbow Ridge have one thing on their minds: take over Frontierland! Thus, the struggle begins-now the only question that remains-will you be a friend of #MyFrontierland or #MyRainbowRidge. 

Welcome to the Legend of Frontierland-a new interactive game where you are immersed into the feud between the people of Frontierland and the gang from over the hill at Rainbow Ridge as you create your own persona and frontier story.  

How to Play:

   

1)    Your first stop is at any of the game locale situated in the heart of Frontierland in Disneyland where you will of course need to create your Western name and persona.  Will you be a peacekeeper or outlaw, or someone in between? It’s all up to you. 

    2)   Like any feud, you gotta pick a side partner.  Will you be either the "peaceful citizens of Frontierland" or the "opportunistic Rainbow Ridge townsfolk"?

    3)  Look up on the walls to answer a Want Ad.  The ads will let you know who needs help and who is hiring.  

   
     4)  Earn Bits-think of them as currency or points that you can redeem for more game play and of course, the ultimate, buying land.

    5)  Will you be a Deputy at the jail, or possibly making signs or working as a performer for Miss Rose at her Talent Agency located inside the Golden Horseshoe or perhaps we will find you in a high stakes game of cards-the choices are yours to make.

    6)  Once you have earned enough bits, turn them in at the Trading Depot to purchase your land or maybe even a mine.

    7)  Once you have your deed, it’s time to take it over to the Telegraph Office to file claim to you stake.

From 11:00 – 6:00 each day interactive stations located throughout Frontierland enable guests to become a part of the story-line for "Legends of Frontierland: Gold Rush!” Locations include the Sheriff's Office and Jail, the Hideout, the Trading Post, a Telegraph Station, a Card Table inside the Golden Horseshoe, and a Talent Agency. Players can also participate in the various locations located throughout Frontierland, interact with other "fellow citizens" wearing your town's color, and earn "bits" which will aid participants in making "land purchases". 

No need to worry about how to get around town. The colorful cast of characters and good citizens of Frontierland and Rainbow Ridge will help guide you along the way. Among the places you’ll need to go include:

Trading Post – This is the meeting place and first stop for new Frontierland citizens. This is also where citizens can keep up with the latest Frontierland news and swap plans for fending off those Rainbow Ridge ruffians.

Hideout – Like the Trading Post, the Hideout is the first stop and central meeting place for citizens of Rainbow Ridge.

Telegraph Station – The information hub of Frontierland, this is the place to send and receive important messages.

Sheriff’s Office and Jail – This is where outlaws are brought to justice and where lawmakers work to keep the peace.

Talent Agency – Based in the Golden Horseshoe, this is where new talent is discovered and showcased in Frontierland.

Card Table – Also located in the Golden Horseshoe, this ongoing card game plays host to outlaws and heroes alike. Be careful what you say here! You never know who may be listening.

Just like a high stakes hand of poker, Disney is not showing their whole hand just yet, with little bits being revealed as the game continues to be rolled out throughout the summer.  Giddy up partner-don’t be left out of the Legends of Frontierland Gold Rush. Join in the fun everyday throughout the summer in Frontierland at the Disneyland Resort.

“Frozen” Fun Coming to Walt Disney World Resort This Summer!

This summer the world of Disney’s instant classic “Frozen,” takes center stage at Disney’s Hollywood Studios®, coming to life like never before in a full range of all-new, immersive experiences through the park.

From July 5-Sept 1, 2014, you can enjoy “Frozen Summer Fun – Live at Disney’s Hollywood Studios” daily. And, most activities are included in regular theme park admission.

Some of the fun and highlights include:

Olaf on Summer Vacation – Olaf the snowman is having the time of his life on his very first summer vacation! He chimes in throughout the day to keep everyone updated on all his adventures. Plus, the best part is that you can pick up your very own Take-Along Olaf from locations in the park, so he can join you on your summer vacation. Share the fun with your photos with Olaf on social media and tag them with #OlafSummerVacation, and who knows- you may just get selected to appear in that day’s grand finale!

Anna and Elsa’s Royal Welcome – At 11 a.m. each day, Anna and Elsa arrive in Hollywood as part of their goodwill tour of neighboring kingdoms, making their way down Hollywood Boulevard in a horse-drawn sleigh. Kristoff is along for the fun, too, joined by a flurry of skaters, skiers, ice cutters and more! The entire procession culminates in a special moment at the Sorcerer Hat Icon Stage to officially welcome the visiting royalty to this kingdom of Hollywoodland. 

For the First Time in Forever: A “Frozen” Sing-Along Celebration –Now you can cool down inside the Premiere Theater, where Anna and Elsa join the Royal Historians of Arendelle for a fun and comedic retelling of the unique history of their Kingdom, filled with delightful, sing-along moments from “Frozen.” Guests will be invited to join in special sing-along moments from the film’s chart-topping soundtrack

Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post & Frozen Funland – Inside Soundstage One, Oaken and his cousins have created a Frozen Funland filled with cold weather activities, unique photo opportunities, and more! There’s a frozen pond with ice skating demonstrations, wintertime fun for kids in the “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” play area, a “big summer blowout” with plenty of “Frozen” merchandise, and special “Frozen”-inspired food and beverage offerings.

“Coolest Summer Ever” Dance Party – Starting at 5:30 p.m. each day, a dance party takes over the area around the Sorcerer’s Hat Icon Stage, with a DJ and live band. The band plays a variety of classic and contemporary summer rock & roll hits, as well as a cool, rocking medley of “Frozen” favorites. It’s going to be hot!

“Frozen” Fireworks Spectacular – Everything wraps up at 9:45 p.m. when Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf come together at the Sorcerer’s Hat Icon Stage for a grand finale to the day’s festivities, kicking off an awe-inspiring fireworks display set to the glorious music of “Frozen!

So now the only question left to answer is “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”

Summer Camp- Let's Make Elephant Toothpaste!

This week at Summer Camp we’re diving into a new way to answer that classic children’s elephant joke:

         “How do you fill an elephant’s tooth?” “Very quickly”

To keep our elephant out of the dentist’s chair, this week at Kid’s Korner Summer Camp edition we’re making Elephant Toothpaste with the help of Gabby.  What exactly is this time honored children’s science classic? Elephant toothpaste is the result of a chemical reaction that creates a rapid expansion of foam. It looks like a volcano of foam that produces so much foam it looks like an amount of toothpaste an elephant could use.

 Like everything found at Summer Camp, this activity can be for little of no cost with materials and supplies you probably already have on hand. 

Materials:

·      16 oz. empty plastic bottle (preferably with a narrow neck)

·      ½ cup 20 volume (6 %) hydrogen peroxide (found in beauty supply stores-note 3% isn’t strong enough for this)

·      Squirt of Dawn dish soap

·      3 to 4 drops food coloring

·      1 tsp. yeast dissolved in 2 tablespoons of very warm water

·      Funnel

·      Foil cake pan with two inch sides

·      Goggles, Disposable Gloves and Smock or something to cover your clothes

Directions:

1.  Set a soda pop bottle in the middle of a pan to catch the toothpaste.

2. Mix these in a separate container and swirl together for a minute.  

2 Tablespoons warm water
      1 Teaspoon yeast

3.  Mix these in your soda pop bottle:
      1/2 cup 6% hydrogen peroxide. 
      4-5 drops food coloring
      A squirt of Dawn dish soap

4.  Pour the yeast mixture into the soda pop bottle. Stand back and listen from the squeals of delight!

The Science Behind the Magic:

Warnings:

• Elephant toothpaste can stain!
• The resulting substance is called elephant toothpaste only because of its appearance. Don't put it in your mouth or swallow it.
• The foam will overflow suddenly and quickly, Make sure you do this fun activity on a washable, stain-resistant surface, or better yet, outside and do not stand anywhere near the bottle when it foams.
• This experiment cannot be done safely without goggles and gloves.

Why It Works-The Science Behind the Magic:

• Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) naturally breaks down into water (H2O) and oxygen over time. But you can speed up the process by adding a catalyst such as the enzymes found in the yeast. When the hydrogen peroxide releases a lot of oxygen at once in the presence of detergent, millions of little bubbles form quickly.  You might notice that the reaction produces  a small amount of heat. That's because the chemical process is exothermic, meaning that it releases energy.
