Monday Memories

Normally when a person shares a memory from their time at Disney, the usual reaction is "Awwww". Not so much with my tale, an "Ewwww" might be in order. Hope you're not eating while reading this, well, maybe I exaggerate just a bit.

A little over a year ago, I was participating in my very first runDisney event, The Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run. Since this was the Saturday morning event, it left plenty of time to attend the Villain Bash that night in Disney Hollywood Studios. Not only is that where the runners finish The Tower of Terror 10-miler, but a number of attractions are open until 4am!

The first hour I cheered for the runners, being inspired by their athleticism and their costumes, then realized I should hit a few rides before all the runners and spectators get in line. Off to the Rock n Roller Coaster! It was the most beautiful sight, barely a wait, and being a single rider, I went straight to the front of the line. 10 minutes later, I was back in the single rider line. Just can't get enough of Steven Tyler & the boys. This time the line was a bit longer. The cast member was moving things along by putting 2 single riders together in "the limo" if none were needed elsewhere. This is where it all went wrong.

In line, directly in front me, was a young guy that had just finished the 10-miler, and I do mean JUST finished. I think he grabbed his medal and kept running over to the Rock n Roller Coaster, not even taking a minute to towel off. The cast member called us both to line up for the next ride. When our limo pulled up, the  runner climbed over my seat, dripping all the way. He grabbed my harness to balance himself, leaving it slimy and wet. The cast member noticed my hesitation to get in, but did not take pity, she motioned me to hurry up. I cringed as I sat in the sweat covered seat, then tried to pull my harness down just enough to protect me,while not enough to be smashed against my chest. That didn't work as well as I had hoped. The next 3 minutes were un-enjoyable to say the least. After exiting the ride,I could feel the wet on my shorts and wanted nothing more than to go back to the resort and shower, that is until I heard the wait for Toy Story Mania was only 10 minutes.

The moral of this memory - runners, please bring an extra shirt or towel. I will be more than happy to chEAR for you, if you promise to dry off for me.

Sporting Events At WDW

Honorary Disney Gal and our very own Disney Gal Travel Agent Dawn  from Destinations in Florida is here to give you the "run down" on the upcoming Sporting Events at WDW for 2014!

Sporting Events at WDW

Yes, sporting events take place most all year long, probably because Florida’s awesome year round weather. WDW/ESPN has a way of organizing events, so it’s less chaotic. They provide transportation at designated times & schedule events at certain places on property as not to affect people not participating in the sporting events.

Personally the only sporting event I’m into is runDisney, unless you count in High School when I was “Powder Puff” football quarter back & that’s only because the other girls couldn’t hold the football, much less throw it.

To help give you an idea of the events months, I’ll list the heaviest months/events according to the upcoming 2014 Calendar: Hard to believe but -- Jan & Feb are filled with tons of events from:

·      Marathons
·      Baseball Classic
·      Soccer
·      Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championships
·      Lacrosse
·    & Gymnastic Invitational

FEBRUARY:

·      Baseball, Golf, Softball, Lacrosse, & Track & Field Spring Training which lasts thru April
·     Junior Olympic gymnastics Competitions
·      President’s Day Soccer Festival
·     Twirl Mania
·      & Princess Half Marathons

MARCH:

·     Cheer & Dance Competitions
·      Volleyball Showcase
·     Disney Track & Field
·     At the end of March the beginning of AAU Boys basketball & it lasts thru August

APRIL:

·     AAU Boy & Girls Basketball
·      Golf Championships
·     More Dance & Cheer events

MAY:

·    Expedition Everest Challenge- 5K trek with obstacles
·     Sun & Surf Baseball Bash
·     Special Olympics Florida Summer Games
·     Soccer Shootout

JUNE:

·      Wrestling
·      Junior National Volleyball Championships
·      Summer Baseball

JULY:

·      Field Hockey
·      More Track & Field
·      Lacrosse National Championships
·      & Girls Fast-Pitch World Series

·Good Tip: Late Summer to December (Aug-Dec) **Least crowded months for Sporting Events**

·     In October something unique happens at Downtown Disney—the 7th Annual Dragon Boat Festival: Twenty paddlers move in unison, combining strength with teamwork in a boat whose elaborate design originates in ancient China. It's all about teamwork with a maximum of 20 paddlers, including a steersperson (cox) and a drummer. What a great site to see while visiting WDW.

Also in October, runDisney hosts the “Tower of Terror” 10 Miler Race that most of us are participating in. It’s sure to be a ghouly event. I hope to see my Disney gal peeps & meet some new peeps while there! Good luck & watch out for surprises around every turn………..WOOT!

Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run

The Road to the 5k

aka What Was I Thinking

It’s hard to believe that it was only two weeks ago that I was on a plane with Bob and Zack for a whirlwind trip of a lifetime. I mean who flies across the country just to be a part of something known as Tower of Terror Weekend? Apparently if you live in my house or in the houses of every other Disney Gal, that’s exactly what you do-you jump on a plane and go.  Bob, in fact was supposed to be at his brother’s wedding that weekend but thanks to Kirsten and the magical team at Tink’s, he too was WDW bound.

So many incredible, first time experiences happened for us in those magical 4 days. First, foremost and always, it was the first time all of the Disney Gals had ever been together!  MNSSHP, the Mom’s Panel Luncheon, Food and Wine Festival at Epcot and yes, the now infamous “What was I thinking when I signed up for this event” The Happy Haunted 5k Trail Fun Run.  I am not a runner, truth be told I am more of a walk with purpose kind of gal but as we all know, I will do anything for a tee shirt-it is always about the tee shirt so far be it from me to pass up a chance to add to my tee shirt collection.  But in my mind, how hard could  this really be?  I mean small children and people much older than I did these types of things all the time so of course I was sure this would be a piece of cake.  After all, it was called a Fun Run so it had to be easy right?

Hakuna Matata Monday-Tower of Terror Weekend!

The Magical Journey of

The Disney Gals

What do you get when you take 13 gals who have never met face to face and send them on all on the trip of a lifetime to Walt Disney World ? Laughter, tears, squeals of delights and those special hugs that you never want to let go  from-that's what!  For the last 4 days the Disney Gals and many of their family members, along with the Disney Divas and members of the Mom's Panel all gathered together in Orlando for a weekend that none of us will ever forget.  Disney is our magical universal connection. It's the language we all speak.  It's that common bond that even though we had never met in person before this weekend, from the moment we first laid eyes on each other and hugged one another, we immediately felt as though we were with someone we had known all of your life. We were family in every sense of the word. Disney, in every sense of the word, means family, and what a family we were this weekend.
