The Madrone School Wizard of Oz Cast Gets the #DisneySide Surprise of their Lives!

The name Disney and Magic often go hand in hand and are often interchangeable but at no time was this more evident than at last week’s surprise #DisneySide @ Home Celebration thrown for the Madrone Elementary School Cast of “They Wizard of Oz”.  The 60 cast members thought they were being summoned to an unheard of last minute Friday rehearsal.  After being sequestered in the band room and given ears to put on-to make a Friday rehearsal “just a little more bearable”, the cast was ushered to the cafeteria where the booming “Soundsational Parade Music” could be heard through the cafeteria walls.  Once gathered at the doors, it was explained to them that Walt Disney said it best when he said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.”  The play, which only a few short months before was just a dream, was about to become a reality but in the meantime, it was time for some fun Disney style.

To cheers, shrieks and even a few tears of joy, the doors opened to the big reveal-a party to end all parties. Complete with Disney treats aplenty, music from the Parks, their own
Disney photo booth to capture the moment and non stop fun, to be able to see each of these hard working, amazing and talented young people see what the magic of Disney was all about first hand is a snapshot in my mind that I will hold close to my heart for the rest of my life. One of the highlights of the party was our Wizard of Oz choreographer, who just happened to be one of forty participants chosen last summer for the DisneyPerforming Arts Conservatory teaching the entire cast actual dances from the Disney Parks!

Party Planning Roundup - Showing our #DisneySide

A number of us Gals were lucky enough to be chosen to show our #DisneySide with an @Home Celebration! As not to flood our site, and your inbox, with individual postings, we will be doing a few group updates. Please feel free to share our ideas and let us hear any of your own.

Disney Gal Lori:

Date:    February 28th - March 1st (It's a long party!)
Theme: Toy Story
Plans:    We will be celebrating with 55 kids from Anderson Elementary school on Friday and thousands on Saturday at the Chandler Ostrich parade. My son has made extra large monkeys for a Barrel of Monkeys game and we'll be making some adorable aliens with the kids. Then we'll hit the parade route and take our float to Infinity and Beyond!

Disney Gals Judy & Kelly:

Date:    February 22nd
Theme: Disney Cruise
Plans:    We will be sailing on the newest ship in the fleet, The Disney Side! Our guest will be mainly older teens and adults, but we will all be embracing our inner child. Starting with a Sail Away Party, eating at "Cabanas" buffet, having a pirate photo shoot with Captain Jack, and ending with a dessert buffet. In between we will have Cruise Line games and adult beverages in "O'Gill's Pub".

Disney Gal Gayle:

Date:    February 28, 2014
Theme: Disney Dance Party-Music from the Parks
Plans:   The unsuspecting cast of Madrone Players' upcoming production of "The Wizard of Oz", thinks they are coming to a special Friday rehearsal. But instead, they will walk into the rockiness of the craziest Disney Dance Parties of all time, complete with Disco Ball, fist pumping, and make you want to get up and show your #DisneySide music from the Parks. Led by our own Disney Performing Arts Conservatory member,  the cast will be treated to the wildest afternoon in the wilderness, complete with Disney dances, photo booths, Disney food and magical surprises galore as they prepare to embark on their journey over the rainbow the following week! Shhhhhhhhh-don't tell-it's a secret!

Next week we will catch you up on how the plans are coming along. Until then...how are you showing your #DisneySide?

Disney Classics - 4 CD Set Review

Disney Gal Judy (writing from Port Orleans Resort with sketchy internet):

I am reviewing two of the four disks, Disney Timeless Classics and Disney Television Classics.   I think my favorite is Timeless Classics; this disk has all the music from my childhood along with a few from our sons.  Who can pass up A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes?  Along with one of our sons favorite from when they were really small; Ugly Bug Ball (okay I might be showing me age now).

The second CD brings in the music from all the different Disney TV shows, again it runs the range from the 1950's to Mickey Mouse Club House and Zorro to Wizards of Waverly Place.  I might not know all the shows but this gives everyone in the house a chance to know a song on the CD.  I would recommend purchasing this set if you are a Disney "person" as it will cover all the bases!

Disney Gal Kelly:

My two disks to review were Disney's Modern Classics and Disney's Theme Park Classics.

My first mistake was listening to the Theme Park Classics while driving. Each song takes you back in your mind to your happy place; sailing with pirates, hang gliding across California and finding your inner child with a little purple dragon called Figment. I don't remember much else of the drive down I-294 except for conducting (yes, I admit it) the instrumental tracks.  The nice part about sitting down to listen to these songs, is you hear parts you've never heard before. Instead of paying attention to the characters or worrying about when the drop is coming, you can enjoy every detail the songs have to offer. You will be amazed how much you miss while on the rides and appreciate them even more on your next visit. I have to tell you, there are a couple tunes on here that I did not recognize, but that is the beauty of the CD, you get to enjoy songs from both parks. I figure if I ever get over to Disneyland, I won't look so much like a tourist if I'm singing along.

My second disk was the Modern Classics. My daughter actually asked for this one when I told her Judy and I were sharing the set. These are the songs she grew up on, movies from the 1989 until present. Out of the 23 tracks, there were 3 songs we couldn't sing every word to. Give us a week, we'll have it down. Every big Disney musical movie from the last 25 years is represented on here starting with The Little Mermaid all the way through Tangled and Toy Story 3. If I had to find one thing I would change, it would be to add more tracks, because one song is just not enough from those movies. But then again, I guess that's what movie sound tracks are for. We had a ball with this CD playing "Name That Tune". I would give my kids just a few of the opening notes and they would give me song title and movie, then everyone sings along, sometimes in the worst voices possible. Yep, that's our #DisneySide.

If you are looking for a great gift, or something to add to your music collection, look no further. These CD's will delight your kids, make those all-too-cool teens silly for just a bit, and bring back magical memories for you. Walmart.com is already sold out, but Amazon has them in stock for $32.09. Enjoy!

Kelly is a Disney Gal who loves finding fun and adventure on the High Seas aboard the Disney Cruise Line.
