Mickey and the Magical Map

       

After years in development, Disneyland Resort has a new show taking the stage at its renovated Fantasyland Theatre. “Mickey and the Magical Map” has finally debuted and is now open to Disneyland Guests, with high energy musical performances seven days a week.

          Retaining Disneyland’s place on the cutting edge of live entertainment, the new experience brings visitors into a world of imagination made real through not just creative storytelling, but also futuristic technology. That’s because “Mickey and the Magical Map” has been conceived around the use of a giant LED screen that sizes up at nearly 250 square feet and one million pixels in size. This screen not only forms the backdrop for the show, but also an interactive canvas for the show’s star, Mickey Mouse, to paint on and occasionally step inside throughout the show.

          As the story of “Mickey and the Magical Map” starts, Mickey is the acting apprentice to sorcerer Yen Sid and hopes to impress him by filling in a missing spot on his Magical Map. But, when he tries to get his paintbrush into position and erase the errant dot, it comes to life and challenges Mickey to see more in the map’s unknown space than just emptiness. That’s when Mickey Mouse is able to actually enter into the screen, sinking into the stage and then appearing inside the map, rather than just in front of it. Once there, Mickey sees the Map brought to life and redrawn several times over, whisking him away on an adventure of song and dance. The numbers that follow take their inspiration from The Jungle Book, Pocahontas, Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Tangled, Lilo and Stitch, and The Princess and the Frog, with characters and their backdrops interacting in never before seen ways. Fans of Disney music and films may recognize several classic songs from Disney animation, but they won’t have experienced them like this before.
