Disney Gal Roll Call - Favorite Disney Holiday Decoration

It's a pretty safe assumption that we all a Disney holiday decoration or two dressing up our homes. The Gals are sharing their favorites ones with you. Join in the fun and tell us which decoration is a must for you every year!

Kelly: My absolute must have decoration in our house is the Disney Musical Toy Chest. It brings back so many wonderful memories. I bought this chest 18 years ago in Epcot, on my honeymoon, and it has survived three children tugging at the figurines and 2 cats thinking it's some kind of toy. Mickey and the gang turn side to side as their mallets hit a xylophone piece, bringing forth 35 different Christmas tunes. Gave me a great chance to teach my children some lesser known songs such as Fum Fum Fum and Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella. Even though the chest is looking a little worn, it is irreplaceable to me and will always have a place of honor in our house.

Disney Gal Judy:

Due to a surprise 80th birthday we don't have our Christmas decorations even out of storage yet, but I think my favorite decorations are the ones our sons made in school over years, I even have one that I made in grammar school that my parents gave me a few years ago.  We also made sure that when each boy left to start their own home that they had their own ornaments, unlike us when it was our first Christmas, we had to go and buy everything.

Lori: For me I love homemade decorations. When we moved in our house we got all of our new neighbors together and we made large wooden cut outs. Our family did Winnie the Pooh and his friends from the hundred acre woods! Each year we put them in our yard. They are building snowmen and ice skating. I will take pictures and share when I get them out again.

Minnie Mouse Swirl Cookies

Are you looking for something fun and Disney-ish to make with your little bakers? I stumbled across this recipe in Family Fun:

Minnie Mouse Sugar Swirl Cookies

You will need:
  • Sugar cookie dough (click here for recipe)
  • flour
  • wax paper
  • red or green food coloring
  • rolling pin
  • plastic wrap
  • red icing or gel

Step 1) Make cookie dough according to directions. Divide in half. Using your food coloring, color one half of your dough either red or green. Lay out a piece of wax paper and sprinkle it with flour. Place plain dough on the wax paper and roll out a 9x9 inch square about 1/8 inch thickness. Repeat this same step with the colored dough. I found making a template makes it easier to cut the exact same shape for both squares.

Step 2) Invert the colored dough onto the plain. Cut the square in to 2 pieces so one measures 6x9 and the second is 3x9. Place the smaller piece on a separate piece of wax paper. Start rolling each piece into a 9 inch long log. Wrap each log in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Step 3) Take each chilled log and slice into 3/8 inch slices.

Pumpkin to Princess ~ Let's Get Moving

From Pumpkin to Princess

The Road to Fit and Fabulous

Let's Get Moving!
It's a proven fact that people are better at keeping up a workout, weight loss program or even breaking bad habits when they do it as a group. We've gotten our group of Gals together and would love to have you on board. Our commitment to you is a blog post every Tuesday with our triumphs, struggles, tips, tricks and celebrations. We will also have "Follow-up Fridays" on our Facebook page to share how the week is progressing, and plans for surviving the weekend. In return all you have to do is comment. Tell us your goals, struggles and achievements and we will all celebrate together! Did you know you are more likely to achieve a goal once it's written down? Sharing with others is an extra boost.

So, who's ready to set their goal for the week?

Kelly:   I have 2 goals this week. First is to keep hydrated. This is hard for me because I don't like water, but I will find a great mix in and get 6 cups (baby steps) in everyday. My other goal is 3 good days of workouts. In my book a good workout is 50 - 60 minutes and a soaking wet jog bra when it's all over :) Now to put the Christmas cookies in the freezer...

Tricia:   My goal is to go to Kelly's and steal the cookies out of the freezer. Just kidding. I have set a goal to run 3-4 miles twice this week and begin the Insanity workout with my co-workers. This craziness should begin tomorrow...eek!

DIS and DAT Thursday - The New Fantasyland

Twas a more than a month before opening and all though the land,
all the cast members were stirring, the guests were at hand.
The buildings with fresh paint now could be seen,
with visions of mermaids, beasts and a fiend.
Gaston in a fountain with a tankard of...water?
and who is that great philosopher hanging
in the back of the shop his painting is standing.
Workers banging on metal at night trying to finish
that attraction in site where some dwarf's will be mining.
Castles in mountains, quaint little homes and a grotto for a princess now to call home.
There's even a tavern for a little delight,
Be Our Guest draws you in for a bite.
It's sure the dinner will be ball,
in hopes you have appetites as big as the hall.
All the guests were excited but barred from the land,
while work continued to bring it to hand.
When what to our wondering eyes did appear,
but a "Soft Opening" sign at the start of the trail.
We heard a tale from that wondrous Beauty,
and sailed a shell to visit a mermaid so moody.
We drank at the tavern,
and shopped at the shops,
and ran into cast members who were off duty.
Goofy and Dumbo were both of flying,
while Casey was getting everyone wet with no hope of drying.
The opening was close.
The land nearly done.
The people were waiting,
to have new fun.
The time was not yet right,
so with a little sigh,
the cast members had to wave us goodbye.
But I heard them exclaim,
as we walked out of sight,
"We'll be open soon for your delight."

We had a chance to see the new Fantasyland while we were there last month because they were having a "soft opening".  A soft opening allows the cast members working in that area to practice working the attractions, stores and restaurants.  Not everything was open when we were there, but we did get to see the following:

Wordless Wednesday - December 4, 2012 - Walt Disney

Disney Gal Judy:
Since today is Walt Disney's birthday my husband and I took a ride last night to take this photo of Walt Disney's birth place, although it may not look like it did in 1901 when he was born, it still does exist.  When he was born it was 1249 Tripp Avenue, in 1909, the address of the house changed to 2156 North Tripp Avenue, he was born on the second floor, in the home that his father built.
