Summer Camp Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Happy First Day of School

Yes even on the first day of college Mommy still takes your picture!
Labor Day is upon us! As we approach the last weekend of the summer, families from coast to coast are preparing themselves to head back to school.  For kids the thoughts are filled with the excitement of new clothes and shoes, reuniting with their friends, backpack that still zip and the smell of your new box of crayons. For parents, it’s a time of anticipation, whether your child is just entering school for the first time, or a seasoned pro with many first days under their belts.  As a teacher and a parent, the first day of school is the greatest day there is but also the hardest. Brand new smiling faces, watching your child grow from year to year and become the adult they were meant to be but at the same time there are tears-tears of joy and tears of sadness. Each year as I great my new group of students at the door, as the parents leave I have them a little bag. Inside the bag they find a tea bag, a cotton ball, a tissue and this note. Although I don’t have a first day of school kit for each of you, I can share these thoughts as you start the new school year. May you hold them close to your heart, and know that each of your children are in the caring, capable hands of teachers who will hold them as close to their hearts as you do.

I gave you a wink and a smile
As you entered my room today,
For I know how hard it is to leave,
And Know your child must stay.
You’ve been with them for many years now
And have been a loving guide
But now, alas, the time has come
To leave them at my side.
Just know that as you walk away
And tears down your cheeks may flow
I’ll love them as I would my own
And help him learn and grow.
For as a parent, I too know
How quickly the years do pass
And it wasn’t all that long ago
I took my own children to class.
So please put your mind at ease
And cry those tears no more
For I will love them and take him in
When you leave them at my door”

Dearest Parents, Here is a little gift for you as you leave your precious one with me on this first day of school.

Hold the cotton ball in your hand-the softness will help you to remember the gentle spirit of your child.

After you’re gone home and dried your tears with this Kleenex, use the tea bag to make yourself a soothing cup of tea.

Put your feet up and relax. Remember that together you and I will work for your child to help them be the very best that they can be.
On behalf of teachers from all over the country, thank you for entrusting us with your child for this ensuing school year. We will do everything in our power to be your child’s guide in learning and exploring this bright, beautiful world they’ve entered into. And always, always remember that your child’s first and most important teacher is you!

Happy First Day of School from Summer Camp!

  2. Kelly, I sobbed great big buckets of ugly tears -for the first time in 32 years, I had no one to take to the first day of school. It was rough let me tell you! Twinkies helped and him texting me about loving being in college helped to.
