D23 Present Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives - Part II

D23 Present Treasures of the
Walt Disney Archives - Part II

As I had stated in Part I, D23 and MSI went all out to make us feel welcome and special during this event, but as we all know Disney knows how to throw a party!

The event was started off by David Mosena, President and CEO of the Museum of Science and Industry,
who gave a brief speech about getting the exhibit to the Museum and working with the people from the Disney Archives to accomplish this goal.  They also wanted to get this exhibit to Chicago for another reason, as any true Disney person would know, Walt Disney was born in Chicago on December 5, 1901 and he lived here until 1911 when they moved to Kansas City.  Walt's family did return to Chicago and he attended McKinley High School in Chicago, where he took drawing and photography classes and was a contributing cartoonist for the school paper. At night, he took courses at the Chicago Art Institute.
David then turned it over to Becky Cline

the Director of Walt Disney Archives, who explained a little about the exhibit and how they picked what would be within it.  Also the importance of the day as it was the 90th anniversary of the Walt Disney Company. Then the surprise quest arrive, can you spell, M*I*C*K*E*Y M*O*U*S*E!!!

The children who where guests for the event from a local public school, were so excited to see him.  Together Mickey and the children did the countdown to open the exhibit.

Five, four, three, two, one!

The confetti came home with me in my purse, I think I pulled out about a bag full. This was shot off in the rotunda which caused a huge cyclone of confetti to keep swirling around within it.

We were then escorted back into the exhibit so that we could take more photos and take our time within it.  We were able to watch the local press do interviews with Becky Cline, Jeffery Epstein (Manager, Marketing & PR D23) and Nicholas Vega (Manager of Collection & Exhibits for the Archives). It was interesting to watch this.

If you live in Chicago or are planning a visit there between now and May 4, 2014, please try and add this to your plans.  The exhibit is not included in Museum Entry and will require an additional time-entry ticket, which is $9 for adults and seniors and $7 for children 3 - 11.  Tickets are on sale at msichicago.org.  MSI members can purchase exhibit ticket for $4.50 per guest.  D23 Gold and Silver Members will receive a special discount on exhibit entry.
