Disney Turkey Legs

The debut of this popular caveman obsession was Frontierland late 1980’s as a concession
Jumbo Turkey Legs, cause quite a reaction, who’s Cinderella & her fella when it comes to this star attraction
Disney peeps like to share them walking down Main Street, licking & gnawing the giant sticks of meat.
The thought makes me nauseous & NOT want to eat, but Disney sells two million annually of this infamous treat
It’s a #1 seller at $12 dollars each & has spawned other merchandise like pins, air fresheners & rice crispy treats
No matter your age, gender or creed if you’re a carnivore, you’re bound to try one, indeed
To make matters worse they’re jumbo in size with over 1000 calories and 45 grams of fat- SURPRISE!
It has pop culture appeal that has baffled me for real & if I see someone eating one my eyes might literally peel.
It’s drippy & dippy and dopey if you ask me, but Disniacs love them nice & juicy and smokey
Channel your inner Fred Flintstone if you must, but do it behind closed doors or alone in lust
I’m no cavewoman & don’t want the display of something messy running down ones leg
Save your chomping at this forearm-sized snack for You Tube, Instagram & Flickr, between you & me it’s not a finger-licker
If you take away anything from this poem- remember this actual fact, any food you gnaw on- especially in public, looks like a barbaric act. Woot

Recipe for Turkey Legs:

Brine 1 gallon water
1 C. kosher salt
1/2 C. sugar
2 Tbsp onion powder
1 Tbsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tbsp paprika
1 Tbsp ground pepper
1 tsp rubbed sage
1 tsp ground cumin
Spice Rub
3 Tbsp onion powder
2 Tbsp paprika
1 Tbsp garlic powder
1 tsp ground pepper
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp rubbed sage
3 Tbsp vegetable or light olive oil

For brine, combine brine ingredients in large pan.
Bring to a boil.
Remove from heat, cover, and let cool to room temperature.
Pour into container and refrigerate brine until cold (35-40 degrees F)
Place the turkey legs into brine.
Let soak four to six hours.
Remove legs, rinse well, and discard brine.
Dry the drumsticks with paper towels.
In small bowl, combine spice rub ingredients
Rub onto turkey legs.
Let drumsticks sit out for about one hour.
Place turkey legs into smoker at 225 degrees F.
A light-flavored wood is best for turkey.
Smoke legs for four to six hours, till meat is nearly falling off the bone.
Remove legs from smoker, and let rest for half an hour.

  2. Great post, but I must correct yo one one thing. There's no way a turkey leg is 1000 calories. Everyone knows all Disney food is calorie free and contains no fat!
