Disney Cruise Line Has Character(s)

What is the first image that pops into your head when thinking of the Disney Parks? Maybe it’s fireworks high above the castle, or floating through It’s a Small World, but for myself and many others, it’s seeing the main mouse himself, Mickey! Watching my children hug Mickey and Minnie, and giving Goofy a high-five are precious memories that will stay with me always. But did you know you can meet Mickey and friends plus many, many more aboard the Disney Cruise Line? And the best part is you don’t have to go far to find them!

Character interaction begins even before boarding the ship, right there in the terminal! As your group ascends the escalators, keep your eyes open for Captain Mickey or Minnie greeting their guests as they arrive. Once all guests on board and well fed, the familiar melody of When You Wish Upon a Star is blown through the ships horn, and Mickey & Minnie throw a high energy Sail Away party with their pals; Donald, Daisy, Chip, Dale, Goofy and Pluto, all in their best nautical gear.

You can catch Mickey and pals doing autograph sessions, wandering the ship, on the beach of Castaway Cay and visiting the dining rooms. The pictures will always look different as they have quite a few wardrobe changes. Island wear, formal wear and pirate wear are just a few of the costumes you will see. And speaking of pirates, Captain Hook and Mr. Smee have been known to plunder the children’s clubs, and ladies…DON’T miss Captain Jack Sparrow (hubba hubba)!

What about the Princesses? You are covered. Once a sailing, there is a princess meet and greet in the atrium. You can expect to see; Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, Aurora, Tiana and Ariel. However, we have also met Mulan and Pocahontas, so you just never know what magic can happen.

To make sure you don’t miss out on meeting one of your favorite characters, there are monitors in the atrium with all the character greeting times shown for the day. Also, your Personal Navigator has the day’s listing that you can carry around with you. To make sure you have the moment captured, the meet and greets  all come with a Disney photographer. Not to worry, they are very patient as you snap photos of your own.

If you don’t need an autograph and just enjoy seeing the characters, do not miss the Broadway style shows in the Walt Disney Theatre. Depending on which ship you are sailing on, you may be treated to some of the most evil Disney Villains, the Princesses with their Princes, all your Toy Story favorites or many others. Again, ladies, keep an eye out for Tarzan (is it warm in here?)!

One last thing to keep in mind, if you want to make sure you've gotten autographs from Mickey and friends,  bring whatever you want signed to the Guest Service desk. We brought in the matting from a picture frame and different colored markers. At the end of our trip we stopped back at the Guest Service desk, and sure enough, it was colorfully autographed and now frames one of our favorite cruise pictures. Another idea is to bring pillow cases so your children will have magical dreams when their cruise is over.

I guess the only question left is, who's ready to join me on the Fantasy this summer? Disney Cruise Line has quite a few exciting itineraries, find the perfect fit for your family by clicking here. And don't forget your autograph book!
